Security and Crimes

Ive been Involved in the emergency response and management community for many years now even having taught professionals from South America.

The question I have is about security and crime personal and property. I am aware most expats congregate around in a certain areas forming a small community of expats. These areas tend to be somewhat crime free and safe and secure with little to now problems other than some petty criminal activities.

I am not the type of individual who can live in an apartment or condo, I need my distance. I like having several dogs and cats and room for them to run.

My question what are the areas like away from the central expat communities? are there areas where and expat can rent/lease/purchase a house and be away from the inner city. I know in most areas the more rural you get the more chance of encountering violent crimes. How true is that for the area.

I receive reports about violent crimes and murder rates per 100k and Belize is up there at 41.4 people per. Most of the South American countries run 20-40 per 100k

Depending on the country and travel areas within is Kidnapping for profit still a big problem. I know a lot of places recommended kidnap insurance when traveling to many South American Countries.

If anyone out there is involved in security or has the information regarding this subject let me know. I would like to live and experience South America but can't stand the city life or coastal life. I.m looking for the suburbs type setting i guess you would call it. We have always lived on at least 3 acres something like that or an compound type setting with high walls so the animals do bother anyone
