Hi I'm a 50 yr young male from sunny Cleveland Ohio. (the cultural mecca of the mid-west) So I'm tired of the rat race of corporate America and a slave to the American dream of owning so much. The winters were having are just not enjoyable anymore. Just going thru the motions, everyday is like grounding day. Spent some time in Costa Rica and Dominican republic....I work at a college and a handful of international students are from belize so it sparked a interest to relocate. I will visit for a month this year and I'd like to live there. Can I open a small restaurant and have belize people cook and serve? That's what I'm thinking

Visit first before you make any plans of living or opening a café/ restaurant. More eateries fail than any other business and prices in them need to be cheap to attract customers, so profits are slim .And the areas that have enough paying visitors are usually more expensive. Decide where you want to be then see if a food biz is feasible .

I see your are on a lot of these posts Bobby, so safe to say you know the game down there......are there a lot of massage therapist in the cayes? And what does an hour massage cost vs. here (US)

Theres lots of 'local' massage parlours, mainly have no real experience . Then theres the real luxury ones run at the high end resorts. First ones are cheap the last ones expensive. I don't think theres money in it for an expat to own and run. Wages are low.

Just throwing ideas around.....if they were done by locals at say $45 a hour ...seems reasonable ....and they got 10% of each plus tip. It would be above average earnings for them. I just get a small place with a few tables and hire. Nothing is black n white I know but a simple business idea that woulda overhead for tourists and locals. Does every business need a ton of cash to start?

That's $45bz /hr . Most of the tourists are on a wk or 2 wk vacation, not that interested in a massage. Those with big bucks go to the all inclusive resorts.
You really need to come look.
the saying here is if you want to be a millionaire bring two million !!! Yes you will need cash to live on and run a biz , maybe for 12 months before you make any money. Plus you have to get a work permit etc etc, first

You should not even think about a business until you live in BZ for a while. There are a lot of rules and you need to assess the market and not just assume. as Bobby mentioned what ever money you bring you will leave with less than half. Seriously visit, visit again, then again, then for a few months, then a year, then rent a place and live at various locations. Then you can start to retire or a business.
