Have you tried facebook messenger or whatsapp If you can get magic box that also works. Check with your internet provider as to why skype doesn't work I use BTL and Skype works with me.

Use small download of Voxox, out of San Diego, former Qualcom people. Excellent! Voxox is a cloud gatherer VOIP. Like Skype free to another Voxox user, otherwise just a penny/call, not minute. HP executives have tested it on their intl people and are considering it seriously to incorporate into their hardware as owners [buyout?] You are crazy not to try it out as it works seamlessly. I have used it from Belize, while visiting there.

Another option -Viper- also, as long as the other party also has it.

I use letsBrik to make international calls. https://www.letsBrik.co It is entirely browser based so all you need you is a computer and internet connection. Rates are very low and the quality is excellent.
You can also set your real caller ID so that the person you call will see your actual phone number. Try it out.

Hi everyone, I am new to Belize but we use the magic jack. It costs $20 per year and you can call any North American number free when on Internet. It also has texting and voicemail that comes to your email. We have used it from all over the world and it has been great. You can also put money on it to call international numbers for pennies.

If you are from US (and I would imagine Canada), get a magic jack and magic jack account. You need the Magic Jack Pro (about $50 or $60 from Best Buy, including your first year subscription fees, which are $35 thereafter per year). You can get a new local number to where you are in US (again probably same in Canada) and you can call people back in US & Canada for free with this (it's VOIP). Trick here is that you need to REGUISTER it on a computer from the US or Canada (so it picks up the IP address) - get a relative to do for you, then pack it back up and ship to you in Belize or just do it the next time you travel back.
People from there CANNOT call you for free, BUT IF THEY HAVE A MAGIC JACK PRO, then they can call you on your Magic Jack Pro for free (free from MJPro to MJPro worldwide)

Brad, your MagicJack input is fine except one can do much better in this VOIP competition. VOXOX, a simple app on your phone/computer/tablet, at zero cost, will let you make calls worldwide, and it doesn't care what your IP address is, e.g. US or CA. There are possibly others as already also stated, but MJ is going to be upstaged easily. The world is a-changing! Growing like gangbusters!

I just want to add a few things here. The Magic jack does not care if you are calling another magic jack number or a cell/landline which is handy. I find that most of the others like voxox it is free calling between voxox numbers so you might as well Skype. When people call the magic jack they don't get charged if they have a plan to call US numbers for free or put the number on your favourites. Technology is changing all the time and I am sure there will be something new over the horizon soon but this has evolved with the changes in my opinion so far.

Magic Jack (VOIP), you will need to buy and activate in the US - $35 annually for unlimited calls to US and Canada. Magic Jack also has an app for android and iPhone that you can use anywhere with wi-fi. Also, Facebook messenger has both messaging and voice calls and if you have an iPhone, use FaceTime - all free
