We are going down on 9/4 for a week. We are flying into Belize City international airport and we have a car picking us up and takeing us to Corozal. I did not really want to rent a car as we are going to focus on Corozal this trip. We have realtors scheduled to take us around and see the property that is available. We do not plan to buy first anyway, but want to see the area. Plan to spend alot or time in town with the locals and local expats. Transfer sevice website. http://www.belizetransfers.com

When we went down in May, we flew into Belize City and got a transfer then rented a car locally in Corozal Town. It is a couple hours from Belize City to Corozal Town, but gives you a chance to see the countryside and villages along the way. Next time we go down we are going to try flying into Chetumal, Mexico which is only about half an hour to Corozal Town, but right now, flights in and out of Chetumal must all go through Mexico DF and are limited to only one or two a day. Many locals we spoke to there said they either fly into Chetumal and have someone pick them up or fly to Cancun and then take a bus to Corozal, but that ride can be 4 to 6 hours. As newbies, we found that flying into Belize City and getting the transfer was the easiest, less stressful way to go.

Or from Belize City you can jump on Mayan Island Airway or Tropic airway. Not sure of the price but to get to Dangriga it is $140 USD round trip and only takes 15 minutes. Yours should be close to that.

Thanks so very much for your help. I heard car rental is expensive in Belize. Did you find that to be true?

I'm also asking everyone's opinion as to area to live if looking for pet-friendly, oceanfront, or ocean view and beach within easy walking distance. Quiet place yet within walking distance of local markets and restaraunts.

Car hire is expensive because imported cars are hugely taxed.. If you want a Caribbean view , you have 3 or 4 mainland areas and the two main Cayes. You need to come visit, all the places are very different and be prepared for beaches loaded with Sargassum, like much of the Caribbean.
