I am an entrepreneur and am considering opportunities in the country. Particularly real estate rentals/lodging or other businesses. Any suggestions?

Real estate is done to death and dominated by people who have been there a long time and know the ins and outs. Its finding a niche in the right place at the right time.
Theres a saying, if you want to be a millionaire in Belize, bring two !!!
Good luck

I have read a number of your responses to other's posts and your's seem really negative. I appreciate a balanced view, but you go way beyond that to the other side. I don't know whether you are in the country or not, but maybe it is time to consider a move to someplace that suites you better, rather than ragging on those who are looking to find a home here.

I agree, totally shot down any hopes I had regarding Belize, w/ a rather coarse demeanor

I agree that bobbyveee can come across as negative - but much of what he says is true. There are, literally, hundreds of real estate brokers here - with new ones coming and going all the time. There are many that spend their time giving tours of the area to bored tourists looking to kill some time, then leave as they make no money. Regarding lodgings, again, there are an awful lot who do this already. Have a look at vrbo.com for Belize to see the numbers, while bearing in mind the population of the country is only around 350,000. I run Placencia Property Rentals and have seen so many come and go, most having lost money and their enjoyment of the country. It is possible to come to Belize and sustain yourself, but not many make money.

Hi. I don't ever mean to be negative, but so many come on this forum without any real searching on the internet asking the same old questions time and time again. Living in the Caribbean if you need an income is basically out, unless you have money and a proven track record. So many come on and make the statement I'm retiring to Belize. Without any research or thought to what they are saying. There are many old chestnuts asked that you just can't give positive answers to and I've also researched so new forum members who are asking the same dumb questions on half a dozen other expat forums and are just wasting good peoples time. There are some excellent forum members who have great knowledge and are very helpful. But we all get ex aspirated by the same stuff being asked every week. Good luck to all those who are genuinely looking for a new life.

The only thing I like to add is that Belize, though despite being small and governed by one government it is composed of different social niches and realities (Corozal, Ambergris Key, Belize City, Belmopan, San Ignacio in the Cayo District, Placencia-Hopkins and lastly Punta Gorda). So one's opinion and experience may NOT be totally representative nor applicable to every one of its separate places; especially when one considers the difference among humans, on one end some are spectators, on the other some are entrepreneurs (self starters). It is a developing country, made to order for the latter type.

Melissa's observations are so true. Many come to split the ~existing~ pie (fill in the type of business) that much further, which only serves to depress incomes that much further for all.

My overall opion is, IF you need to make money here, think of something new to add, and that reiterates the constant advise of: visit, with time, observe, and then and only then make your decision.

Thanks to all of you for your thoughtful responses. Although I don't need to make money to live in Belize, it is just something that I do. I will be looking for opportunities to invest in real estate in some way while there. Thanks again for the insightful suggestions.

bobbyveee, thanks for your insight. The questions asked by "new forum members" here, such as myself, is an effort in 'research', with the amount of pages/questions, some find it simpler to just ask a question, I personally did not look through ALL the questions first, perhaps you could look at MY questions and provide some additional insight. Thank you.
