Belize vs. Panama

If this is a repeat question, I apologize. We currently live in Panama. It has it's good points, but the language barrier gets to be a bit much. We came here with no Spanish and have progressed fairly well in the short time we have been here. We are not the type who refuse to learn the language and associate only with other expats.

We are wondering if there are people here who know both countries enough to give us some insights on the differences. We know that English is the language there. Our questions concern cost of living, safety, health care ( including insurance coverage ), climate, and any other info that might be of interest.

A little about our current status: We live in a small town near Costa Rica. This is the opposite side of the country from Panama City. It is a rural town environment located in the hills. Due to it's location, the climate is moderate. Air conditioning is seldom needed during the day and never at night. Of course there is no need for heat. The cost of local fruits and vegetables are less than one quarter of U.S. costs, but the overall food budget is not as low as these International Living people would have you believe. The same is true of other living costs as well. Housing costs are on the rise, but still much lower than U.S. costs. We live a comfortable - not luxurious - lifestyle on $2200.00 per month. We are both in our early sixties.
