What are some things that you wish you would have brought with you?

I would absolutely make sure I had a couple tubes of a high power steroid-cortizone cream in my bag. This is for bug bites and the like. Make sure you take a decent can opener with you and kitchen gadgets, Also, take in your own textiles. Their towels are very thin with that velour nap. They don't dry well at all. I would take in some books as well. You won't be able to find decently made shoes. Take as many of those in as you can.Electronics are expensive there as well. If your lap top is on the old side, get a new one and carry it it in your carry on bag, they won't look in that. These are just some things I can think of off the cuff....

Bring an unlocked cell phone , then you can buy a local SIM card , I bought a BLU Android for $65 that takes twin SIMs it travels the world with us. Buy decent cotton T shirts and shorts etc etc , flip flops , sandals .

Taking in decent cotton clothes is a def. Take in under wear and your bathing suits. Basically, try and think ahead...

Well what you need to bring is summarized thusly:
Towels, linens, bedding especially a mattress, electronics like laptops, iphones, routers etc,a couple of ac units and fans, cotton everything eg t shirts, trousers plus swimsuits, shoes, sandals, tools, utensils, water pumps, generators to deal with emerg and routine power outages, surge protectors, and a fully equipped first aid kid inluding a charged defibrillator, and antipsychotic medication. And steroid cream. Lots of that.
Thats about it.

It would be great to bring everything you can think of, and just as great to bring nothing at all (maybe electronics and personal things), and start over again and get only what you will need in your new life. I left all my old 'stuff' behind and now have accumulated new stuff, but at least they are things I am really using and truly need. You really can find just about everything one way or another in Belize, with some ingenuity.

As Fred says - you can get anything here, it just takes some ingenuity. So dont worry if you forget something.

A friend has a saying on their home - If there is something that you need that you can't find, call me and I will tell you why you dont need it.

But seriously, bring your laptop/phone (they sell them here, but you know how yours works).
For clothing, bring a dozen t-shirts, shorts/skirts, a couple of pairs of jeans and a sweather. a couple of pairs of flip flops, underwear and swimwear - the versions here may not fit how you like. Dont bring anything leather - bags, shoes, sofas - it goes mouldy and rots. Dont bring 100 pairs of flipflops/swimwear/underwear - they will disintegrate before you get to wear them.

All paper products - photos, books, artwork etc get mouldy or musty so if it valuable to you, leave it with a family member back home.

A decent can opener and wine bottle opener can now be bought at Mirabs in Belize City, along with all other kitchen supplies, so if you turn up with a couple of suitcases, it's ok. Live like that for a month, and make a list of what it is that is driving you nuts to live without. For some, it may be a cheese grater, for others it may be more complicated - but it's all here somewhere.

Hey. What's up with 20 and 40-foot containers? Storage, hurricanes, Man Cave, ? ? ?
