My husband and I are considering Belize as an option. My husband can work remotely. I would need to work and i am a registered nurse. What are employment possibilities like?

Probably not a good idea. I worked with the Min of Health and in several clinics in Northern Belize. Your salary will be a fraction of what u r used to. It will take 6 months to get a work permit if u do and u will need a license with the Belize nursing council. Though English is the official language knowing medical spanish is a big plus. In some places Spanish is used for charting. This us not legal but its Belize. Many nurses are Guatemalan imports who are very good but only speak high velocity Spanish. Anything beyond basic medical care is grim. ER/trauma is non existent. There are drug and supply shortages and no inspection of equipment like defibrillators. OR practices in some instances are medieval. Belize is best suited for retirement by eccentric expats only and then close to the mexican border for 1st world health services and other amenities. So that means Corozal.

You cant work without a work permit and your chances of getting one are about zero. All jobs are filled by locals . Unless you have a very special talent and no locals have and that skilled is required , you just wont get a permit. Good luck

I guess its possible but would not really count on being able to do anything extra at all. at 2000.00 you can live not bad in some areas depends on what you want out of life

Hi On $1200 /month , depending on were you are , you wont be living you'll be existing, assuming you have to pay rent, all your utilities, food, transport and some entertainment, and probably no aircon. $2000 is nearer the mark to live in a bit of comfort. When a single person is footing all the bills it does put a strain on your resources . Good luck

Belize is a cheap place ... if you like rice beans, chicken, and fish. if you don't, it is not.
Belize is a cheap place if you drink rum ... if you are a scotch , or wine drinker ,,, you're hooped ... Belize is a good place not to be a drinker . Though if you stay there long enough the risk ncreases.
If you can go to the open market and find what you need to make a meal ... you'll do ok ... if you can't ... you won't survive there.
