Cayo district, specifically San ignacio, unless you want to live near the beach, but it's an easy day trip to get to if you want. San Ignacio is in the "interior," near the Guatemalan border. There are some single, female expats in town. I've met a few of them that play Cribbage at a local restaurant once a week. I don't know of rentals, but if you can come for a visit and look around while you're here, talk to people - somebody will know of a place to rent. I don't use real estate agents here, but there are some in town and some have listings online. I would rather find something through the locals.
