Hey Guys, I am 38 year old Army vet who wants to move to Belize. In May I am coming to visit and do some recon. I do not want to see the tourist area because that is not where I want to end up. Are there any Expats/Vets who would be willing to meet with me over a Beer, maybe show me around, and answer some questions I might have?

I am a 38 year old vet also visiting June13. If after your recon or if you are still in country, hit me up. Looking for a possible room mate who has a similar financial and need to live borderline off grid.

If you are on a fixed limited income then you are better off in Mexico.. Consumer Prices in Belize are 73.75% higher than in Mexico Consumer Prices Including Rent in Belize are 64.07% higher than in Mexico Rent Prices in Belize are 26.41% higher than in Mexico Restaurant Prices in Belize are 19.88% higher than in Mexico Groceries Prices in Belize are 62.96% higher than in Mexico and internet and electricity are more costly than Mexico. Belize roads are mostly inferior to goat tracks in Kazahkstan. The overall infrastructure and medical services are better in Mexico So is the beer

Allan you should also mention that Mexico is Spanish speaking and the Mexican government asks for tax on worldwide income.
Mexico is also very big and different. It is not comparable if you life in e.g. Cancun or San Luis Potosi.

Hey Allan, Does the Mexican government pay you for trying to recruit people to there? If I wouldn't have a fixed income I would probably not try to retire in a foreign country. If I wanted to move to Mexico the title of my post would be "Coming to visit Mexico in May"and not Belize. You must spend a lot of time visiting both countries, shopping for groceries, driving the roads, buying internet etc to get such exact numbers on everything. You should probably go back to the Mexico Expat page.
