My family and I (myself, wife and three kids under 10) from Canada want a change from the go go go life of North America and would like to move to Belize to a more relaxing and slow moving way of life. We are open to almost any options as far as where to live in Belize, rent/own a residence, start a new business/buy an existing business and even what business area to get into. This is why we have given ourselves over a year to get everything figured out before the actual move. As part of our research, we would like to get some info from families that have already done what we are attempting to do so we know what we are in for and what problems we can avoid. We also would like to make some friends online and then connect with when we go down to look around prior to moving. Any information or contacts would greatly be appreciated. We are planning a working vacation likely this fall. Thanks in advance for all the help!

…here was our story; - we are from an hour outside of Toronto - we were looking for an all inclusive vacation - prices for the entire family were all over $10,000 for 5 star - I said to my wife after a few years of that it is better off buying something - we researched for about a year properties - decided on Corozal Belize - booked a vacation to check it out -looked at several properties we had in mind - bought a property with rental units in it - our plan is to vacation every year - my wife and myself spent "sabbaticals" abroad as young children due to our parents professions - we both agree a year abroad for young children is beneficial, and will not take away from their elementary education - we are considering taking our 4 and 6 year olds to belize, for a year of home schooling and tutoring at our second home

That s a good one, You compare a 5 star resort with Corozal where they ain`t got no sandy beach and you will be struggling to get any good food? The best about Corozal is the proximity to Mexico.

I forgot something. What are you doing in Corozal when you go there on vacation? There is nothing. On tripadvisor there are 4 things to do listed. And the number 1 ranked is the shuttle service to Belize City. Than you have the St Rita Mayan ruin which is fun for maybe 30 minutes and the water sports and fishing business at the beginning of town that is usually closed.

… sorry did not express myself very well. Corozal is not a luxury place, (however we very much enjoyed the local restaurants, and found lots of delicious food). We are down to earth people. However when we book a resort vacation we go deluxe all the way. For day to day living we definitely prefer laid back and "non city" type of atmosphere. So after spending time in Corozal we found it suited us well.

… ya its more for the laid back. Its definitely not for "vacation" walk all day and take in as many of the sights as possible. It is however pretty amazing place for a Canadian looking to escape -20 and relax for a few months. Todd

I agree. Lived in Corozal for 5 years and frequent trips to Mexico made it bearable. There is nothing to do in Corozal but its a great place to lay around, toss darts with inebriated expats, and dine on rice and beans and BBQ chicken with Heinz baked beans and cole slaw. . Its relatively inexpensive in comparison to Ambergris and attracts retirees primarily. I met most of them at Sams in Chetumal weekly. Its no place for children except those of Belizean origin.
