Placencians are very warm and friendly. It is a village and so the locals and the local Permanent Resident will be met with some of resistance by the local population. For example my friend wanted to set up a pharmacy well guess what the only pharmacy at the time was owned by the daughter of the chairman of the village. So no competition there.

Good choice in my opinion. I visited all major areas of Belize over 6 years, and bought land/built home ijust outside the village of Placencia. Love the small village feeling, people, services and awesome restaurants.
Best beaches in Belize.
If it's for you, do it ??
But I highly suggest tenting a house in an area you are interested, in town, near " sidewalk", in Maya Beach, wherever for a few weeks and try living like an Expat before making decision.
