How to Find Housing in Corozal

Hey all,

My husband and I have been looking at housing online for our planned move to Belize.

We're familiar with living in the Caribbean but have never visited Belize so this is a blind move, and we'd ideally like to find a short term rental in the Corozal or Belize City area.

We've been looking online but haven't had a great deal of luck, most places are in Belize City it seems and require a minimum one year lease. We don't want to commit to a long term place sight unseen for that period if at all possible as we're not sure what area of Belize will be the best fit for us yet.

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate place to post this question and if not apologies, if it is appropriate any advice or insight on resources for finding housing anyone could provide would be appreciated

Thanks for reading

Jesse

Your best bet to finding housing is to get your boots on the ground you might want to try facebooks group like Corozal Living and u might see some listings but nothing beats going to the market and asking locals or expats about available rentals. Whether u wan to stay at a waterfront apartment or a furnished condo in consejo shores or a small and cozy smugglers den when u get here that is the best way.

Hi Jesse,

I am in the same phase than you, looking for housing online.

For short term rentals i am using:

www.airbnb.com
www.vrbo.com
www.homeaway.com

The advice i got from other people on this forum is to rent one of these vacation houses for one week. Once you arrive go to speak with the locals and you will find something better and/or cheaper.

Good luck!

Thank you both Kenubelizeit and Seminomad for your replies, appreciated!

I agree 'boots on the ground' and getting to know peeps once there is probably the best way to go about it (that approach has always served well in the past) but will absolutely check out the fb group

I think we might have found a great place today though so fingers crossed. good luck with your search as well SN =)

Thanks again both of you, appreciate your time and very helpful povs

It s also an option to stay in a hotel for the first month. Some offer huge discounts like the Mirador or the Cactus. Also the Seabreeze and Copper Horse are rather cheap.
As there is theft going on in Cactus I would not stay there personally.

If you walk through town you will se property options. A 2 BR house is around 300 USD.

I own a house in Corozol I am selling. Personally, I would go crazy if I stayed at the Mirador for a month.. I guess it possible...

I guess it is. They usually charge around 45-50 USD a night. Gives you a good impression about the pricing in Belize :D
