The facebook pages haqve gone wild witht he video and one can clearly see a woman being manhandled on the ground by a male officer and even punched and pushed tot he ground. The officer pulls out a firearm and starts to advance and discharges his firearm to the ground after a bottle was thrown the mob is protesting the afore-mentioned incident. The officer then after discharging his firearm then takes a rifle and points it towards the crowd. Restraint may have been shown but wantonly discharging and brandishing a weapon is beyond reason and show a lack of training.

Unfortunately this police violence is not uncommon, last year on Caye Caulker the police beat an innocent man to death in the cells, whats even worse is the murder charges have been dropped.

The Belize police are poorly paid, trained, and equipped. They lack forensics and community policing is rudimentary and their crime resolution rate is 12%. Its 70% in the USA. They often require transport if you need them. If you are republican libertarian like most BZ expats this is all cool. ;)

Happily, charges were files against the officers. https://www.breakingbelizenews.com/2017/04/03/police-officers-charged-excessive-force-san-pedro/
