Plenty of stores around In Corozal. 2 we used were Seasons and Roshnie which are near Scotia bank, a block apart from each other. For the last week long visit we did in Feb/Mar of 2017 I wore sandals, no socks, jeans and short sleeve shirts. I brought a hat but didn't use it.

if you use special shampoos, cosmetics etc bring them with you, you dont have a big choice. dont bring anything leather. just lightweight stuff, flip flops T shirts , something comfortable to walk in. and Deet is available everywhere. Also bring your own sun barrier creams if like particular ones.

the humidity ruins leather , turns it moldy. Its hot and humid in Belize and by the coast very salty, stuff rusts as you watch.

I am very particular about my hair products,,I take my own.. I color my hair and I did not wash it in tap water, in Corozal. it will make it feel like cotton candy. I bought a five gallon gas can and got rain water from a friend's cistern to wash my hair. I am not kidding you. I would NOT GO TO BELIZE with out a prescription tube of cortizone cream... If you get bitten by a Docta Fly and you forget that cream, you can find some relief with Vicks Vapo rub, they sell that. If you take meds take them. I could find most of my meds there when I took them. They were usually made in Europe or Belgium..I wore one of those yellow curly bracelet insect repellent things, it worked quite well. You can find tooth paste if you don't mind flouride and OFF insect repellent. It is twice as expensive, I carried my own down there. They consider Avon products as top of the line, which they are ok but the stuff down there runs on the cheesy side and is made in China or Panama. I would take a couple of decent towels, they cannot be found there.....

wow am I glad I do not live in Coozal I have little trouble getting most supplies for shampoh' conditioner etc here in Belmopan I. Do agree washing in rain water is the best. We only have catchment water so do not know the quality of the city water. US and European made cortizone creams in variable strengths are available in Brodies who have a good pharmacy. If you have a prescription it is always worth checking if it is a drug they stock as likely to be much less expensive. One of the few pharmacies that do ask for a presciption as proof before selling you many medcines.

Thanks for the help, Ithe reason I asked about shampoo etc, is I have a mop of really thick hair and I have to use a lot of these products plus I get bitten everywhere I travel so I need to be able to get these things and do not want to have to take a lot of this with me when visiting for a month but I know the only way to really figure out all these things is to stay there and see if it is a good fit for me

In Belize, humans are the main course in the Insectivora bistro.
There are two brands of mosquito: the Aedes that carries Dengue fever and Chikungunya and Anopheles that transmits malaria which is low risk unless you are in the far south of Toledo district.
There is the sand flea which inhabits the sands of Hopkins and Placencia and carries Leishmaniasis parasites but I only had two cases back in the day. Looks like leprosy if neglected.
The "doctor" fly will bite with the pain of burning embers and change you hand into a volleyball pdq. Benadryl by IM is needed for that, plus a hydrocortisone shot.
Fire ants leave itchy pustules on your feet that you scratch like crazy causing cellulitus but steroid cream is good for that.
Thats it for bugs. Scorpions can show up in your kitchen now and then but its not worse than a wasp sting unless you are allergic. Snakes like the cosacabel or fer de lance wont be an issue unless you hike in the jungle where you should wear thigh high rubber boots. The juveniles however have prehensile tails and they swing from trees and nail you in the neck where only a bible will save you, John 11:23 I think

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.......

he's (5allan1) just a disgruntled old chap here to spew his negativity, seemingly due to his having been officially asked to remove himself from the country years ago.

I wouldnt disregard Allan , hes a regular visitor and worked as a Doc for the gov. he speaks a lot of sense . Ward doesnt even live in Belize , not even sure if he's bothered to visit. Yes you need to be aware of the down side of Belize, theres an upside which you hear from everybody thats moved here. Ive been involved with Belize since 1969 , from a military point of view and personally owning property on AC since the last century .Allan was here for 5 yrs. hes a straight talker , so am i . many just want to make money out of expats coming here, its being used as free advertising , and those that make money out of expats travelling and moving here hate it when the downside is given. We loved the place. helped many locals but had to leave as my wife ended up with skin cancer and yopu dont get treatment there for that. Read all and read between the lines. many on here have an axe to grind for their own benefit. Most importantly be aware , visit and make your own opinions. Good luck

I agree. Allan has some good advice. The problem is the way he states it. It is always in a condescending/derogatory fashion towards Belize, without giving both sides.
