Internet Reliability (at any cost)?

Hi all,

I have posted before seeking information on this topic but think that thread is pretty well dead so I am trying again here with a slightly different focus.

My wife and I will be visiting Belize in early May to look around and determine if we want to move there from the U.S with our two young children. My wife works for a developer in Belize but this will be our first trip to the country.

All that being said, one of the most crucial questions I still have around moving to Belize is internet speed and reliability. I have heard (on here and elsewhere) that Belize has some of the worst and most expensive internet in all the modern world but, what i am still wondering, is if those limitations can be overcome for the right price.

My current job requires that I am on quite a few "online meetings" (Webex, for those familiar) daily and I know those chew up considerable internet bandwidth that most of even the best posted internet plans (i.e. 4mb/sec) available in Belize will barely handle.

I am not so concerned about the cost as much as if it is even feasible for someone (likely in Placencia) to obtain semi-fast and reliable internet connections via ANY means. Satellite, Mi-Fi, etc... are there any tech/internet savvy folks on here that can speak to that?

I have seen some private rental listings (e.g. aribnb.com) that list having high-speed internet among their amenities but wonder if that is either an exaggeration or just based on a different standard.)

Like I said, I am going to be in country in just a few weeks but am not totally sure how to validate this even in person other than finding a place I would like to rent and literally getting them to let me run a meeting/stream a video/etc, while on the property.
