Recently landed in Bermuda and now faced with furnishing an empty house. Have looked around a few furniture stores and everything is clearly marked up massively from US prices. Found one sofa going for $2700 here which is available in the US for $700. I understand that there are import costs but that's ridiculous.

So, I'm thinking about buying in the states and shipping over. Does anyone have any tips for shipping companies to use to get the stuff here?

Now you have discovered The Truth about Bermuda.

My advice is to create an account on EMoo Bermuda which is kind of like the Bermuda version of Craigs;ist minus employment because it is illegal to look for a job on the island.

Anyway, EMoo has classifieds and you can look under the category of furniture. Also, there is a great second hand store called Orange Bay. Link here: http://orangebaycompany.com/consignments/.

Orange Bay is located in downtown Hamilton. Churches and the Salvation Army also run thrift shops.
