Im 50 yr old single black male. I am aware of the cost are very high, but also concern about the life how easy it's going to be to make new friends. I've worked around the world from hong kong Mexico Tanzania made friends there, but other place didnt want to mix outside of work. Is it worth leaving for an island am I better looking at other places?

Hello Scottoy:

After reading your post, I felt compelled to respond. Do not move to Bermuda. She is beautiful and high maintenance.

Before considering moving to the island, do your research: (1) Subscribe on line to The Royal Gazette, to get a sense of the politics, crime, and cost of living; (2) Subscribe on line to EMoo Bermuda, to discover the incredibly high cost of housing; (c) Find a good map to plot how far residential properties are located from your workplace; (d) Get bus and ferry schedules to help plan your commute -, some of the bus lines close at 6 PM, and the last ferry leaves Hamilton at 8 PM; and (e) Research any social or professional groups in which you may interested to see if they even exist.

I am an uber fit, white, mid-life female professional, model, actor, and Ex-Pat American, and, after six months, I thought I would die of: (a) Starvation; (b) Scurvy; (c) Boredom; and/or
(d) Loneliness.

As a man you will have better time of the social scene which mainly involves drinking in the bars on Front Street. Plus, the women are stunning. Unlike anywhere I have ever lived, I had a very hard time meeting people, except in church which was awesome. Tired of sightseeing and roaming around alone, and not making enough money to both eat and sleep, I returned home to the States.

Bermuda is beautiful, her people are warm and welcoming, and British polite, but please do your research before you change your life.

Best of luck to you!

Thankyou for your reply, I've been looking at the local poverty there, which concerns me. why such a rich island does local people struggle. my trouble is I have morels, and I dont want to be a part of the rich tax dodging community. Thanks again

While many companies operating out of Bermuda do so for tax reasons, as a private individual, you cannot avoid a hefty tax burden.

Paying a minimal amount of income tax may make you think you are a tax dodger, but in fact you are merely the subject of excessive indirect tax (on ridiculously expensive goods and services) rather than direct tax on income.

Your morals can therefore remain intact, unlike your wallet.
