Hi everyone. I am a female professional newly moved to the island. One thing that's creeping me out is how dark and empty some streets are after sunset. I've been trying to look for an apartment, but at this point every one I've seen at least has a portion of the road leading to the place badly lit. This will be an issue because I might need to work late.
Is this the new norm I should be adjusting to. I've moved to new cities before but honestly I've never been so scared. Your insights are greatly appreciated!

This is the norm for Bermuda.. Most of the streets off of the main street do not have proper lighting.
Over all most areas are pretty safe to walk... even at night ...

Thank you! I appreciate the reply! I miss walking on the street where there is always people and cars, subconsciously that makes me feel safe... but I'll adapt!

i'm very new to the island, as the other have said, if your going to be walking at night just keep a small torch in your bag or use your phone light

Hello Vzai:
I, too, was creeped out by the darkness of Bermuda. I lived on Morgan;s Road and on Longford Road and felt uneasy everytime I can home from work ;late. The island, however, is safe. Nevertheless, I kept a flashlight and a phone light with me at all times and shone the flashlight around as I walked. I alsi walked in the middle of the road until a car came so I was not near hedges pr walls. The lack of street lights is very disconcerting to a city girl. If you are in a good neighborhood you should be fine. Buy the biggest flashlight you can find.

I agree that the lack of street lights off the main roads can be a bit unsettling! But I've learned that most of the island is safe, even when its dark and a bit late, walking around is fine. If you work very late though, I'd suggest getting a scooter (or a car). Having your own means of transportation will give you an extra feeling of independence and safety, that goes a long way :) Hope you found a nice place by now!

Despite its ubiquitous darkness, Bermuda is safe as long as you stick to the main roads. I often worked late and was reliant on ferry or bus service which was quite unsettling as all 110 pounds of me had to walk down unlit narrow streets flanked on either side by 20 foot walls. I carried three flashlights, including the one on my phone. It was still scary, though, as there are no stores or businesses to duck into should any one be following you.
I agree that if you commit to stay on the island, it would behoove you to get a scooter or a car as having your own transportation will improve your life greatly. Check E Moo for used vehicles.
