" Hi. I know that there''s drug trade issues going on in this country, but I also heard that protests and civil unrest too? Should I be concerned about a biz trip there? I know I had college friends that went there on vacation and loved it. Anyone there know anything? "

" Hi; I''ve lived down there for a total of 2 1/2 yrs and am planning to retire there in approx. 2 yrs. Never had any problems, as a matter of fact I found there to be little crime, and if so, only what we call petty crimes. Only thing that is a little hard to get used to, they sometimes seem to make up laws or rules as they go along "

I''ve lived here since August 2000 and the most I''ve seen is a road block with lots of happy smiling short people. I live in Santa Cruz. Its much less political than La PAz. I think its a greeeeeat palce. Come on down. You can stay with me. Nora

I am coming to Bolvia to look at a retirement home in Beni province ( Magdalena )
It looks very hot and humid and you have to get a taxi flight from Trinidad
Am I crazy to consider retirement there ?
What is it like living in Bolivia ?
I hear you have to get a 1 year residency twice then you can apply for full residency, is this expensive and difficult to get ?
kind regards

I love it here in Bolivia. Moved here back in March and am convinced this is such a unique and wonderful place to live. I did not come to visit first but over several years kept my focus on this lovely country along with Guatemala. I am so glad I came here instead. You mentioned drugs and truthfully I can not even say that I have seen any. The crime is almost non existent.. The weather is ideal for those of us who enjoy a warmer climate. The only thing I can say is that I do regret is that most places to eat do not serve vegetables. I love my veggies and find them at the markets and eat more than I use to at home. It's still better than the States all the way around. The people are warm and friendly and very accepting to an older woman with an invalid child accompanying her. The taxi drivers are the best when it comes to getting her in and out, including transporting her wheelchair to boot.

Just returned to Canada after one month family/tourist visit to Santa Cruz & Tarija Departments. Coming back to check out Samipata in 2016 with a view to retiring there. Family members are farming in the San Ramon area of Santa Cruz Department. Lots of interaction with Bolivian citizens especially in the Municipality of San Julian market. That experience was a positive one. I was in Santa Cruz de la Sierra in November 2016 and observed two (2) political demonstrations at the 24 Septembre Plaza - all peaceful. I am told that property crime is high but crimes of violence are not. Hope that helps.
