i'm doing some research about teaching english in brazil. i want to know what the current rates of pay are, and how much the average rents are in both the cities and country areas. is it easy to rent an apartment, and where is the best place to look? how long does it take to get a visa. i've heard lots of esl teachers go on tourist or student visas. does anyone have any experience of this? also, what are some general prices for food, drinks, movie tickets etc? thanks in advance!

It does not take long to get a travel cisa to Brazil. However you should hope to get a 5 year multiple entry visa and not a 30 day visa.
Pay for English teachere is very low. You should not expect more that $300.US a month... maybe a bit more but not mych..
Apartments are not as easy to rent as in the US. However a 6 month rental should not be too much trouble. It's the longer term rentals that require a co-signer for the lease.
Cost of living here in Rio is very low outside of Copacabana and the other tourist areas....
