Hello everyone! I moved to POA roughly 2 weeks ago from Michigan. I am a graduate student working on my research here, and have found my work here to be quite rewarding. The 'gaucho' way of life seems appealing, and despite my fluency in Portuguese, I am still adjusting to the new culture. I am hoping to meet other people, expats or otherwise, in the area to talk to... Is there a common place where locals go, or where expats meet??

Hi Ana,
I briefly visited Sao Paolo a few years ago and I liked the life there.
You will need a lot more than two weeks to get use to the culture and the way of life in Brazil.
If you are
My goal is to buy a house there and retire. When I visited there I've seen the favellas but also the nice places in Sao Paolo.
I guess you will see this all over Brazil.
Ten days, as I was visiting, gives you only a glimpse of the life the Braziliens live ; I am sure there is more to it then I was able to find out in such a short time.
It seems that middle class is still a minority there, but is growing.
Soon you will meet Americans who retired and live there and surely they will share with you their experiences.
Wish you good luck and keep in touch.
Cheers,
Michael
