Has anybody had problems using ATM's in Brasil? I have lived down here for 4+ years and never had a problem with my Bankcard until the past month. Sometimes I can get 600Reals sometimes 100 and sometimes zero.

ATM are programed to pay out money based on what they have in "caixa". Thus, when the supply is low, you get less. I use HSBC here in Goiania. Withdraw R$1,000 at a time. Only once, I wasn't able to get that amount. BTW, we talked way back in 2001 when you first arrived. Glad to see you have survived. :-)

I never had problems until about 6 weeks ago. The amount you can withdraw often is based on the amount remaining in the ATM and is not necessarily a reflection of your bank's withdrawal limit. HSBC seems to allow the largest withdrawals. My problem has been that my withdrawals are authorized on one day, with the exchange being X and then when the transaction completes, the exchange has changed and the bank sees a different figure, and debits my account twice. I try to minimize this by not doing an withdrawals near a weekend when the exchange us subject to greater fluctuation by the settlement on Monday.
