Hi all, I'm a 35 year old UK man running away from the UK's weather, taxes and monotony. I hope to be moving to Rio in March to start my new life and experience everything Brazil has to offer. What i am finding trouble with is the cost of apartments. It not that i dont have enough money, its just that rents are as expensive as London and it seems a terrible waste seeing as i hope to spend a lot of time outside! Is there anyone on here who would consider renting a room to me for a few months while i find my feet, settle in, learn Portuguese and decide if i will stay for the long term future? My budget is between $300 to $500 a month. I'm a sensible, good natured, considerate, practical, intelligent, hardworking, great humoured guy and very easy to live with. Sorry if this looks like a CV, but i'm sure you know where i'm coming from. High speed internet is vital for me as i'm a currency trader, but that's all i really need, but if you live near a surfing beach that would be the cherry because i've surfed for 20 years and plan to surf a lot there. Even if you don't have the room i would appreciate any advice you may be able give regarding room rental somewhere. Thanks for reading and who knows ........... PS ... i'm also a qualified surf instructor and would be very happy teach you and your kids if you have them!

I am presently living in Miami but another Miami expat is in Rio and has the perfect room for you:
contact Bob at rf_rentals@hotmail.com
I stayed there in 2008 and he has a great location in Copacabana just 1 block from beach.

Hi friend,
My wife is from Brasil, and we are currently in Belgim. But I can try to help you find a place next to the beaches meeting your budget if you wish. My advice to you would be to avoid Rio, very high criminal statistics, if you dont mind theres other georgous spots in Brasil that you'll love.
Let me know. Looking forward to hear from you.

Dear Supertuber, For the kind of money you are talking about, Rio is out of the question unless you are willing to sleep on someones couch. If you go online, you will find Rio is about 95% of the cost of New York as far as cost of living. Could you live in the big apple for $600 per month? I did not think so. I love Rio. I spent a month (and $6000) in 2007, and have gone there every year since 2001 for at least two weeks. It has become VERY expensive to live there. There are MANY beautiful places in Brasil which will not break the bank like Rio or Sao Paulo. Good luck.

I saw your post and I am from Miami in the process of moving to Brazil. In September I am planning to move to Brazil in Belo Horizonte and I will be working in Rio (barra da tijuca) two weeks every month and I was wondering if you knew of any people in Rio that could show me a good time and chat with me and tell me things to do and not to do. I also need to figure something out regarding a living arrangement consisting of the first two weeks of every month... I have only been to Rio one time. I usually go to Belo Horizonte, Sao Paulo or Florianopolis. Anyways, add me to your msn messenger or email me at Clintp7@hotmail.com and lets chat sometime. It would be great to make a new friend and help each other out.
Clinton
