By coincidence, the World Trade Tiourism Industry Convention is starting today here in Floripa. Investors from 23 leading countries will be meeting and sightseeing on several development projects worth US$12 billion to be spent through the 2014 Soccer World Cup.
Although a state capital, Floripa is a small town with 400,000 inhabitants. There are few industries, the leading one is computer software, and most of the people working are employed by the city or state governments. Tourism is seasonal from December through the Carnival in February or March and most of the foreign tourists are from neighboring Spanish speaking countries such as Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile, so Spanish is widely spoken during the season.
As you are a BR citizen you will have no problem with a permanent Visa but should update your passport in the nearest BR consulate and get further information and network on local tourism development projects. Also do some Net reasearch and send your resumé to all local employment agencies.
Let me know if I can be of any further help.
I wish you good luck!
Carlos

Hi MiMorocco,
I'm afraid I won't be of much further help on this specific issue since my career as an international marketing executive was based in the US and I have no experience nor connections here. I am retired by the US Social Security and moved to Floripa in 2002 and have done no work ever since...
I know from hearing from other people that is not easy to find jobs here, except menial ones such as waitress, hotel maid, receptionist, etc, and only temporary during the season. But don't take this for granted as the situation seems to be changing and there might be good opportunities coming up soon. Your best bet now is checking the Net for jobs and employment agencies in Florianopolis and Santa Catarina, in Portuguese and Spanish. Check the DIÁRIO CATARINENSE (http://www.diariocatarinense.com.br) and if possible, subscribe to their Sunday issue. Also check with the nearest BR consulate and embassy, if possible. Best, Carlos

Hi Carlos,
Thank you so much on the info!!!I will be sending my Cv to employment agencies, and I was also reading today the media feedback of the WTTC, which sounds very positive and I really hope international investors will 'inject' money in the sector soon!!! Really hope I can be there soon!!! Milena

If you don't have a permanent resiident visa, which permits you to work, you won't get hired. And the only other way is if a company will sponsor you - which won't happen as it's too expensive for small companies and the paperwork is enormous.

BR citizens, as I believe it is the case according to her profile, need no visa nor permit to work in Brazil.
