Private Property to Brazil

I heard that it's getting harder to be able to import your auto to Brazil.
This was a key ingrediant for moving there - bringing household goods with you. Maybe it's wise to have addresses in adjoining countries where it's easier to import your own vehicle? With a Brazilian wife, we'd become perm residences, but I'd hate to pay double for a vehicle - I'd prefer to import my own car.

You cannot import a used vehicle to Brazil.
You could drive it there, but then you have to cross the border every ninety days for re-entry, but thats not practical and with foreign plates you are key for robbery.
The only used vehicles you can send to Brazil are antique cars, more than 25 years old. Shipping to a neighboring country won't work as even if you drive it to Brazil then, you can't register it in Brazil.
As far as your household stuff, thats no problem. Once you get your perm visa you can ship whatever you want, within reason. In general you can take one new and a couple used of just about anything-except things with a gas motor. They are prohibited. A moving company can give you specifics. Im in the process of shipping a 40 foot container now. Usually most will ship either a 20 or 40 footer.
