As far as moving...I take it you must have a permanent resident visa, work visa, or a citizen-because if you are moving on a tourist visa you can only stay a total of 180 days out of a year and you are NOT permited to ship anything there.
If you are moving there on a resident visa, then you just have to decide if the stuff you want to bring is worth it! It does cost quit a bit: you can ship just a few boxes, a 20 foot container, or a 40 footer. You have to pay for the container and port fees-but nothing on the actual stuff you are bringing. Its tax free. But you can't bring in anything with a gax engine.
Cars, in general, cost 2 to 3 times as much as in the US or UK. Most buy used cars and they are still high. You also don't usually want to buy a nice new car because its like telling the car jackers "hey, I have money, rob me"!! Electronics cost 2 to 3 times more also.
Satellite TV and internet is readily available, but a little on the pricey side. Cell phones are cheaper in the US, I buy unlocked quad band in the US and take to Brazil. They use a sim card and the minutes aren't cheap-but EVERYONE in Brazil has a cell phone!
Gas is higher, but you have a choice to buy gas, alcohol, gasahol, and natural gas. Many cars use a couple of the choices...just depends on what you buy. But the cars are smaller and get better gas mileage also.
Brazil is a great country in many ways. But its definitely a culture change and you have to adapt and embrace the changes...but its really a great place to live if you do!!
