Au pair interest in Floripa?

Hi, I am new to this site. I am an American looking into a possible move to the Floripa area. I am 22 years old and am looking for a family interested in an au pair/nanny. My boyfriend lives about an hour away from the island. I just got back to the states from a 2 month visit and have fallen in love with the country. Especially the Floripa area. I have tried to apply through an au pair web site, but au pairs in south Brasil are not very common. If anyone could be of help that would be great. I would be interested in starting to work after the first of the year (2011). I know a little bit of Portuguese and am interested in taking an intesive course when I arrive.

Thanks so much,
Cayla

I'm not sure about Au Pair work in Brazil, but I do know that Maids and Nanny's can be hired for relatively cheaply down there. While Au Pairs don't make much money in most countries, it's probably still 3x more than you would pay someone down there. 1 "salary" is roughly $300/month, and that is usually enough for a full time person who doesn't live you with, and who doesn't eat your food.

Your probably better off living very frugally in the US for a few months and then simply living down there off the savings instead. You might find a couple gigs teaching english.
