Can anyone tell me where baggage or boxes being shipped from the U.S. to Brazil are opened. Is it the first stop such as Rio or Sao Paulo. Also if they are opened, are they resealed.
Thanks, Tom

I believe Sao Paulo..I am near Rio and all my stuff goes there first and sits for a bit of time..don't know about opening and resealing..but I was told by my wife who is Brazillian that they are x-rayed..and she read that there is a back-up in the mail system now..I have been waiting for a pkg that usually takes 17-21 days form approximately 28 days now and counting..I wish I would have got this last one with a tracking # but had not been having problems and decided to not track this last one..wish I had will track all in the future..and have been advised to stay away from...FEDEX and guaranted global express....and use registered mail USPS..no insurance with the package.. ..and no commercial value written on the package ...these are for boxes...if you ship your baggage things may be a bit more difficult..I found it best to pay for extra baggage at the airport..and don't put any extra insurance..the airline has insurance coverage built into your baggage....you will be taxed for extra insurance I believe...hope this helps...

nearly all boxes or large post passes through sao paulo.well the post i had sent to manaus from england they do open certain parcels and re seal in a fashion, its all a bit of a lottery, i have found sending mail to brasil more reliable by standerd post the by registerd faster as well. sending post from brasil to england is as good or even faster and cheaper by standard post. wheather the rules are different from state to state . in manaus any articals with a value greater than 50 us $ is liable to a tax duty. one way around this is to take of all new labels on clothes or other articals and put second hand or used goods. as i mentioned before these are items i have sent from england to manaus to england. hope i have been a help ps you will love brasil
