Hello all; I am a 25 year old student, who by the end of December will hold Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling. However I do know that the psychology field in general, in brazil is a very hard profession to get into.
However, I am Brazilian, but I have lived in the USA since I was 11. I would love to live in brazil if even for just a year, but i do not want to spend all my savings and come back in debt. I'd like to experience living in brazil for a year, and possibly liking it and staying, but if I don't stay, I want no harm done.
With that said, I am very uniformed on how to go on finding jobs in brazil, I'm either looking for employment in Curitba, Parana, or Joinville, Santa Catarina. I have family in both areas, but they do not have contacts that I need in regards to jobs...In Joinville it would be easier since I have immediate family there, but in Curitiba I only have friends in their early 20s... Anyone has any advice? help? ( I have a cpf, and an Id...I jusr dont have a "carteira de trabalho" or a driver's licence..."
I also am worried about crime, and losing everything I saved (i am a student, working part-time, intern-shipping the rest of the time, AND going to grad school) But it has been a desire of mine to experience living in brazil...

No one can help me out? Any answer would help... I've been reading the forum, but seems like many already had a job in some kind of marketing/business, and they live in northen brasil... No one in Southern Brasil? :(

Hi there! It's such a huge country. I don't know anyone in the south. That's where most of the big jobs are. It's the industrial heart of Brazil. Up here in the Northeast, we're the poorest area of the country and the cost of living reflects that, but it certainly is not inflation-free! I predict the inflation rate here in Fortaleza is around 10% Anyone like to comment on that? What is it like in the south? Andy Neill Fortaleza, Brazil

South is the best, low crime, beautiful beaches and girls, classy people and nice towns like curitiba, florianopolis, etc , I am thinking about moving down there too,I really want to move to curitiba and i am looking for a job, if you find out more info please let me know, I've heard that by teaching english through TELF you can make a decent living until you find something else, good luck,

That is what I have read and heard as well. South of Brazil has the highest standard of living and the lowest crime. There are more Europeans settled there. Its funny because I am confused by the fact that hardly ever hear of expats that move to the south considering it is highly advanced and ahead of most of Brazil

Hi, I think people just don't know about it (south), I have family in curitiba they moved there years ago from Rio and love it. When are you moving? I think moving south would be a the best decision. I am looking for an american company to work for down there if you have any suggestions please go right ahead, I'll let you know if I get any info about what you are looking for, good luck!

Thanks Sergio! I am also looking for anything in Curitiba, though I work in psychology ( have a MS degree), I do not think I will find anything there right away. I will be moving in december however, because I need to graduate with my MS, and take the exit exam. I currently do not know of any American companies that could hire you, but I heard from a friend that Infraero is hiring for many positions recently. But it is useless for me, since I will be only moving in 6 months.

Hi there,
I'm in Curitiba working for an American company. I was lucky enough to have my compnay ask me to come down here for a specific multi-year assignment (actually seond time in Brasil)
Yes, there seem to be many jobs with international companies here but most of these are in the technical/engineering fields such as the company I work for.
In the past 10 years, Curitiba has grown quite a bit and this is driving demand for all sorts of services as well.
I can't specificallly say I know of a job with your skill set but will kep it in mind.
Best of luck, Ken

Helocopter, I don't know anything about your profession or the régulations of advertising of medical professionals (here in France it is illegal for them to advertise their services) but perhaps you should inquire with your relatives if you can put ads in the newspapers as a psychology counselor. Just an idea.
