For many newcomers and those considering living in Brazil, access to quality medical care is a top priority. Please help those moving to your area by posting your experiences with the local health care system. Also, include any information about health insurance in Brazil. Be sure to post the name of your city, region or town.

Hi there! You can sign up for one of the medical plans here, like Unimed, which is said to be the best. It's less than you would pay in the US and they are connected with really good hospitals. I am not signed up as being older, it's way more expensive for me. Luckily I am healthy but on a couple of occasions that i have used the facilities here, including the Unimed hospital near me, I've been more than pleased and consider the service very "first world"!

Unimed is pretty good, what we have. Also, most hospitals have plans specifically for their own services. So if you have a hospital close, you can sign up for their plan which works only with them...just depends how much you want to spend and if you travel much.
