Xenophobia in Brazil.

Is it just me or has anyone noticed how anti-America SOME Brazilians can be?Why is that?I work in Brazil and my boss is way over due with my pay check which was supposed to be given to me the 10th.I ask questions about why i haven't been paid yet..and she goes on ranting about Americans having attitudes, how we talk bad about Brazil and how "oh life here is not so easy now is it"..i never done any of these things she's accusing me of and this has nothing to do with me being paid for the job i did.She was acting really childish for someone who calls them self a professional.Has anyone experienced this with Brazilians..especially Americans?I'm sick and tired of my nationality being brought into every minor disagreement especially when the Brazilian person is in the wrong to begin with.Millions of them have traveled to the first word to work and make a living and don't mind taking tourist money yet when it is their turn to accept some immigrants they can act foolish and nationalistic at times. It seem like every Bolivian immigrant that comes here gets killed to.

Just because your boss acts like that it doesnt mean every Brazilian do as well. Its just YOUR prejudice.

Everyone in every country has issues with their bosses... The subject is different but LIFE IS like that

Smoke screen...she´s throwing up a smoke screen to save face. And yes, we will always be "THEE" target so get used to it. I´ve been here going on twenty years and still guard my words but with friends speak openly. Try humor... it works well. Good luck.

I've been living in Barbacena Minas Gerais for almost four years, and have never experienced anything like that. I'm probably the only American in the city, and people have always shown me nothing but courtesy and friendship.

There's no Xenophobia in Brazil at all. Actually sometimes, Brazilians use to think strangers are better than Brazilians themselves.

Its just your relation with your boss that is messed.

That was a good answer. Exactly what I feel. I love Brazil and the people as well. Never had any problems with them, more than normal and anywhere else in the world.

Wow so you're going to say in a country of about 200 million people no one is prejudiced?Just like they say racism does not exist in Brazil when we all know that is not true just by looking at the way Blacks are treated. My boss had no right to yell xenophobic epithets referring to my nationality and had the same thing happen in the U.S. the American employer was loose his or her job and the company would be sued for discrimination. And i clearly wrote SOME in all caps to imply that i'm not talking about ALL Brazilians. And it's relationship not relation..Você deve ser brasileiro porque parece como se tivesse dificuldades entendendo inglês.Pelo jeito você tá levado tudo pro lado pessoal e fora do contexto Eu posso ajudar com isso se quiser.

stephen, actually, and that's a fact because you can check it yourself in your passport, is that your nationality is not american. Look it up. I repeat, American is not your nationality. Okay, that one. Second, where on earth aren't they xenophobic? Even in the US it exist where many feel inferior when you have a better education, because according to them, that is only possible in the US. And yes racism exist everywhere, grow up and if you don't like it there, just leave, go back to Obama land..lol.

I hate to be the one to break this to you.......but my 5 years experiences tells me that when the Brazilian employer is weeks over due with the pay check that it usually indicates that the company is in financial dire straights. Maybe you have received your check already, and maybe it could be months.

Cash flow is a serious business problem in Brasil. Your employer is having this problem and is using your nationality as a distraction. As you can see even some of the people who are supposed to be a source of support on this site can fail you. As to YOUR cash flow problem, this is the NORM for most every worker in Brasil. It may be time to find a company that has it's crap together. BTW-What city are you in? Oh and to nickfla1980-if you are NOT helping, you are the problem.

Thanks dude.I`m in Salvador right now.My company has been brought by a new owner and apparently this owner is making lots of changes and has plans to pay me my pass due salary, which is now two months overdue. Nickfla 1980 is not even American.I can tell by his or her horrible English grammar.Yeah, cash flow is an issue here. The same thing happened to my wife who is Brazilian. The worst thing about that situation is that she works at a Hospital!

skateboardStephen, I'm Dutch, you moron. Now, do yourself a favor if you don't like it there: Go back with your skateboard to your Obama land and pay attention to your own horrible English Grammar, which sucks for a "native".

Hey nickfla-off your English sucks, your observations suck and you should go back to Holland! Citizens of the US are Americans you tool! It's bad enough that Brazilians say they are American (as if a continent was some type of country) but being from Europe, you should know better. I don't know where this animosity comes from just because USA citizens call themselves Americans. It is called the United States of America! There is no other country that uses America in their name. So why cry about USA citizens calling themselves Americans? We have been called Americans since our country's inception.

If you don't like what i have to say, then don't respond to the thread dumb ass.You are Dutch which means you are probably White and you sound female(i could be wrong)so in Brazil people probably kiss your ass.I never said i did not like Brazil nor is my thread a reflection of all the 200 million people that live here.
I just said they can be xenophobic and there is discrimination here and one should be prepared for that.Plus one should also be aware that you can't depend solely on your job or income in the country because you are not always going to be payed in Brazil due to corruption and poor money management. That even happens to citizens.

Sounds to me like you have something against Americans...SCREW YOU! and kiss my American ass.People can talk about Americans but they don`t like it when you someone says anything about their country.I was not bad mouthing the country i`m just making a observation.Every country has it`s negatives and positives including the U.S. and to ignore the negative side of a country and pretend everything is perfect just because you are not from there and you want to be politically correct is ludicrous.
It looks like the Dutch are poisoned with political correctness as well.

Hey skate, you've been baited by this insecure Dutchman. Leave it alone. She's hellbent on proving their superiority. They were afterall the first colonial power to fail. Still, your grammar really sucks. Best run your posts by an editor.
As well, you all don't seem to understand the meaning of xenophobia.
Brazilians are largely wonderful, open , accepting and happy people. You just got a bad boss.

I don't know why people are saying brazilians love Americans. This is not the first time I have heard that a Brazilian says negative things about a mericans and it won't be the last. Of course they're jealouse there country six.

80 percent of the population uses the pubic health care system because they can't afford private insurance.

there are no screens

Potholes the size of trucks

It take 3 hours to drive 10 minutes

Their homes have no heat

The government steals all their money

An iPad costs a small fortune

The quality of their products suck

The taxes are higher than the. US and you get shi::y public service.

The infrastructure sucks

The cops kill civilians with impunity

Good luck getting justice, the place is disorganized the cops couldn't figure out who done it if the person did it in front of them.

They have wastebaskets in public bathrooms filled with ------- covered tissue, because you can't flush the toilet. Hepatitis anyone?

A huge chunk of the population lives in slums off grid.

I could go on......I feel bad for them...bad luck being born there

Another thing all the expats that move to Brazil move to work at good jobs from their 1st world ivory tower. They get help from their companies and their government. And they know they get to go home someday. They live the decent part of Brazil the good parts with good private insurance. They don't have to wait in a overcrowded public hospital for 24 hours hoping they don't die while waiting like the rest of hte population.

So their vision is a little cloudy. IF the country is so great why were Brazilians sneaking into the US to work as slaves for Americans who by the way treated them like sh**it 90% of the time. You don't see Americans dying to get into Brazil do you? You don't think that maybe Brazilians may resent the difference?

You go to their country to work in the best jobs that most of them can't get because they have no education you open businesses, and when they go to your country they get to clean toilets and get deported and discriminated against.

Just because they smile at your doesn't mean they don't like you inside remember that. Brazilians are non-confrontational so stop thinking your so great and they all love you because your living an illusion.
