Hi, I was just in Ilheus in December - my Mom lives about 5 hours south near Porto Seguro. I just went there to check out the area, I dont know that much about it. We stayed at a beautiful pousada 28km south of the city.

Thanks for replying. My son is going to study over there from England UK and I've heard various stories. Just seeing if any families from UK are out there as a safety contact in case he has any problems. It's such a long way from home but he's sensible. Where are you from? Is your Mum British, Brazilian or from elsewhere?

My Mum is American, and she's been there 10 years. Where she is is very different from Ilheus (although sough of Ilheus it's more sleepy, like my Mom's town - a small town called Cabralia, near Porto Seguro). If you need more information please feel free to contact me! Ilheus is definitely a bigger town, like it's sister town Itabuna. There's definitley some safety issues but not like São Paulo.
