American hairstylist looking to move to Brasil

Hello!

I'm an experienced hairstylist in the US hoping to move to brasil. I was wondering if anyone has any insight into the industry there. Are there many high end salons in cities like Rio and Sao Paulo? Do you think an American stylist would be a draw or would I be seen as less desirable? Have any of you ever heard of a foreign stylist making a good living this way? Obviously good Portuguese is a must. Thanks for any info.

Hello!
Are you hoping to emigrate to BRAZIL or are you hoping to leave the US? I am afraid it is very difficult to get a Brazilian permanent residency visa unles you have a work contract with an employer before you get here; you are married to a Brazilian national; or have a child born in Brazil.
If your new destination is not an issue, you should try Australia. 'Hairdresser' is on the list of needed professionals there and the language and the culture in general would not be a problem. Please, look at this link http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/a-z.htm and see if it is interesting to you. My daughter lives in Australia. I was there for five weeks at the end of last year. All jobs and businesses to do with beauty care are in the hands of the Chinese but I am sure there could be room for an American hairstylist. Good luck!

Hi there!
I know Marlington and she is exactly right as it is difficult to live in Brazil without one of the conditions she mentions.
I have one thought about Australia and I have not lived there.Back in Canada in the late 80s, I was working as a headhunter in the computer industry...big hardware and software and applications.
I had a young Canadian couple come in to see me who had just arrived back from six months of living in Australia.
The told me several reasons why they moved back to Canada. One was that Australians didn't appear to them to have much of a work ethic...they said the Australians were in at 9 and out at 5 and party, party, party! The other thing they mentioned which turned them off was that they seemed to have little regard for women...or Sheilas, as they call them. Sort of second class citizens.
Just a couple of observations from people who took the opportunity to move there and then in six months, moved right back to Canada.
