Hello, I am new to this site. I am needing some help with finding information. I am a Canadian citizen and I am intending on moving to Floripa next year February 2017. I am curious as to how difficult it is to find work? I have a psychology degree and am currently learning Portuguese. Also is it expensive to live if I move in with my partner? What kind of visa/ work permit do I need and how long does it take to obtain? Hopefully someone can help me. Thank you. Jenna

Hello, Jenna
I am a Lic. Real Estate Broker and Settling-in Service provider living and working in Florianopolis. I believe the best way to discuss your needs is on a Skype conversation. Please add me as your friend on Skype and I will give you all the necessary information as there is a lot to say. I know the island perfectly as well as as how everything works here. Regarding finding jobs, I will explain how the combination of visa and work must be dealt with in order to get to a successful outcome whenever possible. I work with a local team of English-speaking professionals such as lawyers and accountants that can help you solve any issues you may possibly have.
I shall be looking forward to your reply.

Hi Jenna! I was born in BR and moved to the US 50 yrs ago. Things have not changed that much as far as some individuals trying to take advantage of individuals like you. Be real carefully and "Trust no One" for any reason. Even attorneys are crooked. If you are going to hire one don't pay all the fee up front. Pay as things happens. Also bargain and negotiate the fees. If you are going to buy land or home buy some thing that has "escritura registed in cartorio." Please dont buy anything if they are not going to give you the escritura. Stay way from the "uso capiao." They will say that this is the same as escritura but its not. You will loose your money. If you try to go to court for anything done wrong to you it will be in court for years because judges are bought every day by the people who do harm to others. I know Floripa and have a friend there who i visit once in a while. It is a beautiful place to live. It is a Island with beautiful beaches all around it. Good luck to you and your partner.

TONY is 100% right. Stay away from these real estate people that tell you ridiculous claims of appreciation and are pushing their business every time you email them. Brasil IS IN A RECESSION right now and not likely it will come out for years. REAL ESTATE will be dropping in value. If you like Floripa try contacting some of the contracting companies who have unsold units. Talk to people who bought in there. Go find a person or friend who knows the area. DO everything through the cartorio, NO exceptions IF you can find a lawyer you can trust, use him.
