Do I have to go to Brasil to change name?

Oh, really hoping for some help! I am American and Brasilian (living in the US) but I have two different legal names bc I was married in the US, I now have to change my legal name in Brasil to reflect my married name for various reasons. Do I have to go to Brasil to make that change or can I do that with the Consulate? I would need all of my documents to have name changes including my RG, voter registration card and passport. The other option is to give my sister who lives down there full power of attorney. Can she make those changes for me? Any help appreciated!

If you are still in the USA , GREAT! Get all your paperwork done at the embassy. You will need to be able to access documents that may only be found in the states. Give yourself PLENTY of time. Look online (Brasilian consulate) for the listings of documents, costs and procedures. The embassy may ask for different documents than listed, this is why you should do it all there. The last thing you should do is the visa. When I applied for it, they kept asking for my travel date, you have to have a ticket already bought. Then they kept delaying the process until the day of departure. I tell you this because you are used to the way business is conducted in the USA. Brasil is no way near as efficient nor do they seem to care to be. So lower your expectations and prepare to be underwhelmed.
