I want to move to Brazil and am really excited at the opportunity! I have a friend in Fortaleza that said I could live with him for a while when I get there. I was considering getting a student visa, since I would be there to learn Portuguese (currently a Foreign Languages major) and staying for up to a year before moving on to the next adventure. However, I also want to work, since I don't have a lot of money to just chill for a year and don't want to inconvenience my friend by staying so long at his house. I would like to sooner than later rent a place for a while. Does anyone have tips and/or advise on how I can do this? Thanks! I'm über excited!

You must go to the Brazilian Consulate in your region and get all the information you need. They are there to help.
Good Luck!

It's probably going to be hard to get a work visa. A lot of people will be willing to hire you to teach English even without a work visa.
