Natal or Floripa?

My wife is from Brazil and we're considering moving to Brazil with our three kids. We are considering Natal but I am wondering if we should also consider Floripa or any other destinations?

My oldest (16) son is full Brazilian but my other two are 7. I would be working remotely for my US company and would not need work. My wife however would possibly teach English if the opportunity arises .

Please let me know your thoughts?

My budget is around $3k USD a month

Hey. I would avoid Natal. The city and infrastructure, from what I saw, was quite poor. So between the two...I would go with Floripa because I've heard great things. However, if you're open to other suggestions or you prefer to live in the north, Fortaleza is a great alternative to Natal with much better infrastructure and much more modern buildings restaurants, downtown, etc. Natal was very run down... at least the downtown area I saw. Personally I wouldn't want to live there or raise kids there. But Fortaleza was more like a Florida vibe with a great vibrant downtown and big nice beaches. Good luck.

Actually, I didn't see a lot of Natal. So maybe there are much better parts than what I saw. I was there for 2 days for the World Cup so it's possible there are great areas I didn't see. But I did see very, incredibly nice parts of Fortaleza. And I believe your $3k US per month will be sufficient in either of the cities. Maybe Floripa would be the most expensive. But I dont have 3 kids so I really can't speak on how fast the money goes either. But at the moment you have a pretty favorable exchange rate.

Based on what I have read Natal was supposed to have really nice beaches. Porto Negra was supposed to be the nicest part of Natal as well.

I also read that Natal has one of the lowest costs of living and also fairly safe place to raise kids.

Yeah. Praia Ponta Negra is a really nice beach and that area is nice. It comes off as more of a touristy area. But it is a really nice beach and the neighborhoods around the beach seemed nice and clean. That's where I stayed for my 2 or 3 days there in 2014. I definitely believe that Natal has one of the lowest costs of living. I guess it's all relative to what your priorities are in a place to live. But I can definitely confirm the beaches are great and Ponta Negra is a very livable area.
