Getting a Brazilian Bank Account

Post New Topic

I am looking into getting a pension permanent visa in Brazil. One of the requirement is to have a Bank Account in a Brazilian Bank. My Brazilian girlfriend has a Bank Account I was wondering if she can put me on the account. This will qualify as a Bank Account for my visa. Also if you know a Bank in the USA that would make it easy to wire funds each month to the Brazilian bank with low fees.

You need a CPF to open a bank account in Brasil
Banco do Brasil and Bradesco and maybe CAIXA have branches in Miami

You don't tell me where you are now, in BR or US ?
I think they would let you have a joint account, yes.
BUT I think it's better you have your own account. You'll get a debit card just like in the US.
My advise and experience is to open one with Bradesco (great bank) or HSBC Brasil.
Banco do Brasil and CAIXA have sucky service, you will sit there ALL day to fix anything vs here it takes 10 minutes.
You might have problems opening one with federal banks like these but the other independent and foreign banks HSBC / Bradesco) should not require you to have a perm visa. Some do.

Hello!

I think HSBC and Santander open bank accounts for non-residents in Brazil.

Your best bet is to talk to a lawyer that specialises in issues involving potential immigrants.

You could contact the lawyer whose services I use to solve these matters. He is in Florianopolis but you can contact him anyway and he will most certainly know how to go about all this. He will charge you a fee but is is really worth it. In these cases, guessing may prove expensive and frustrating. Please, let me know if you would like to have his contact details.

Good luck!

Brazil16.......I don't have a lot of info about you such as; have you ever lived in Brazil? Brazil is a very complex country to do business and getting a bank account is not a simple as walking into the bank and an hour later you have an account. It may very well take several weeks. I retired in in July 2015 in the NE of Brazil. I do have a bank account which took several months to get....this included the ability to pay bills on line through the bank's on line website. I didn't have to present proof of retirement or a pension deposit into a Brazilian bank account. I didn't have the paperwork for both but the PF declined to review it. I think a good word of advice is that you DO NOT make deposits to a Brazilian bank. They have a tendency to move your money to different accounts whenever it suits them (without your knowledge or permission). With your money in a Brazilian account, the government can now tax it on certain withdrawals and they will. My pension is auto deposited into Bank of America and I withdrawal it through ATMs as needed. If you must deposit your money into a Brazilian Bank, only do it until after you get your Visa and then end the deposits and put it back into a US account with Brazilian ATM access. If you must deposit into a Brazil bank account, speak with your pension service. They maybe able to directly deposit into foreign bank. If not, Bank of America charges $45.00 to wire transfer any amount to a bank in Brazil. If you live in Brazil having a Brazilian bank account can help you a lot. Paying bills on-line is a lot easier than standing in line for hours at a bank, lottery ticket sales store, or other location.
