What to wear in Sao Paulo Brazil

I'm moving to Brazil for a 12 month project. I'll be staying in Sao Paulo Itaim Bibi surrounding area. I've been told that there is a lot of crime in Brazil and not to stand out as an American (I'm a US citizen). My work attire is fine, but what should i wear on weekends to NOT stand out as an American, and are there popular American brands worn by men in Sau Paulo?

People in Sao Paulo are fashion conscious and for the most part dress well. There are like anywhere a poorer population too.
Brasilians have their own fashion and also copy a lot of what Americans do.
They have all the same clothing stores as we have in the US and more. Any mark you see here you will see there.
I would think watching what you see where you will be working is the best way to see what is the local dress.
Brasilians love shorts and fashionable shirts with color AND sandals (without socks) ! Sandals and socks, they'll think you are German.
Go to the local malls and see what people are wearing. Wearing something sporty with a famous soccer players name would help you mix in.
The other thing to remember, Brasilians look like people from the US too ! Unless you fall outside those norms, you will fit right in till you open your mouth !
Brasilians are super friendly and very accepting of others.
Being in what I would call a yuppie area of SP, you may find some people a little arrogant.
Brasilians are VERY private people and usually won't tell you their life story like many people in the US do.
SP has lots of great places to eat, churrascos, por kilos and ethnic restaurants, anything you can imagine.
I'd stay far away from any protests and public disturbances, you could easily get seriously hurt.
The current reai exchange rate is good for you, I am assuming you will be making US dollars there.
Sounds like an adventure, have fun.
