Which visa are you talking about ? Perm visa based on marriage or a business visa ?
Maybe the business visa takes longer.
I don't see why not as long as you have a current visa to get back in such as a tourist visa or are from a country where no visa is required.
I would not be gone for a long period of time because years ago I left and came back and the FP could not find me and cancelled my perm visa.
Process now is a lot cleaner and faster, I got mine in 2015 within 2 months, BUT I had one years before that so I was already in the system.
The new perm visa program is really amazingly fast now.
In the past (2005) it took me over a year.
