Hi everyone, I'm an Irish Life coach & English teacher with a business background. I've been an ex pat since I was 16 and have lived, studied and travelled the world. I speak 5 languages and am learning Portuguese now. I am moving to Santa Catarina shortly and would love some information about getting a job there. I'm qualified in business, languages and teaching. I'm hoping I should easily get a job, but am not sure. I'm familiar with Brazil and have lots of Brazilian friends here in Dublin. They have all said I would get work in Brazil. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for the advice??

Hello!
I have been a translator and interpreter since I moved to Brazil 40 years ago. I was also an English teacher for 16 years and a business English teaching method writer for several types of jobs for over 20 years. I used to create a specific method for each student or group of students as required.
I believe you should do a lot of research locally before moving here. I would stay in SC for at least 3 months just doing that.
Should you wish to discuss this in depth, please call me on WhatsApp or Skype.
Bye for now,

Hello!
Please keep in mind that you will need a work contract from an employer in Brazil. Unfortunately, it is extremely unlikely that you will be able to get one as an English teacher. This is the drama of every English speaking person who thinks they can get one. Also, English teaching pays very little here unless you manage to build a clientele that is large enough to make enough money for you to live reasonably well. Or if the English you teach is very specialised.
I have always been self-employed in every sort of work I have done because it is the way to make decent money.
Brazil issues permanent residency visas in very few situations: if you are married to a Brazilian national; if you are the partner of a Brazilian national in a steady relationship even if you are not married (this is new and was included in the New Civil Process Code); if you are the parent of a Brazilian child even if both parents are foreign; if you qualify for an investor's or retirement visa; and in some other cases such as religious leaders, scientists, students, etc.
So you must also evaluate your possibilities.
Please call me so that we can discuss things.
Thanks.

FIRST thing ; can you get a perm visa ? IF you're coming on a tourist visa you can still prob land an English teacher job but your time is limited. You can extend your tourist visa as many times as the local Federal Police wants to renew it. IF YOU can't get a perm visa right away, I'd fall in love quickly or have a big bank account
I'D say your chances are good to find a teaching job Santa Catarina is MY favorite state, lived there for 4 years, in Balneario Camboriu. SC is nice from Joinville all the way down the coast. Florianopolis is a great place too, a college town full of students that need to learn English. South of Florianopolis real estate gets real cheap Lots of sleepy little beach towns with surfistas and kite surfers.
For God's sake don't bring anything you can't put in a suitcase with you. LOTS of everything you could possibly need there already; clothes, nice furniture, cheap cars, nice aptos, etc.
Solving the visa thing will let you stay forever

Hi Outthereusa, Thank you so much for your useful and helpful reply. It was very positive which I like to see. I'm working on my work visa with the Brazilian embassy here in Dublin. As you may know Ireland and Brazil are very closely linked. We accept thousands of Brazilians yearly here and have good agreements in place. Floripa is definitely my kind of place and that's where I hope to work and live. As you say that's where the students and money are. Thanks again. Much appreciated

Hi Marlingford
I just join the forum and you made some comments that I found interesting.
I am a French man in serious relationship with a brasilien women. 9 years. We are not married but we want to buy a property together while still working in UK. we are planning in the future to move to brasil permanently. Can I get a status (residency permit) in brasil without being married. Can I buy a property without a brasilien citizenship?
It would be helpful if you can give me further information.
Thank you Pastos

Hello!
Yes to both of your questions:
a) Can I get a status (residency permit) in brasil without being married.
Yes, the new Brazilian Civil Process Code allows the Federal Police to grant a permanent residency visa to a foreign national who is in a long-term relationship with a Brazilian national if they live as if they were married. Please see: http://www.pf.gov.br/servicos-pf/estrangeiro/pedido-de-permanencia/pedido-de-permanencia-com-base-em-uniao-estavel
b) Can I buy a property without a brasilien citizenship? Yes, you can . You will need a Brazilian Taxpayer's Number - CPF (issued in 10 minutes if you are in Brazil at a cost under R$ 10. If you request it at the Brazilian Consulate in your region, it may take months). You will also need your original birth certificate (I have to check whether there is still no need to have it apostilled), your mother's name and your passport.
Hope this is helpful to you.
