So my husband and I met and got married in Canada. I am Canadian and he is Brazilian. We have decided to move to Brazil so he can seek medical treatment immediately for some issues as it would take about a year for him to get his Canadian health card. My question is what visa would I apply for to go to Brazil with him. We only have a couple months before we need to leave and we plan on staying there for several years so I'd like to be able to work teaching English. Also, with all the money were spending here in Canada if they ask for proof of sufficient funds for a tourist visa I would not be able to get in seeing as my husband has our money and his parents will be supporting us when we first get there anyway.
If anyone has any helpful information please let me know. My husband and I are freaking out because we don't want to be separated. Thank you!

You will most likely have to buy insurance in Brasil because public health moves very slowly. Am surprised it will take him a YEAR to get insurance in Canada. I remember the documentary SICKO where one Canadian got his so called girlfriend from Michigan into a clinic in Canada in one day. I'd concentrate on staying in Canada and trying to sort that out vs moving to Brasil. The cost alone trying to settle in Brasil are higher than what you will get there. Brasil is in turmoil politically and financially with a poor economy.

You can enter Brasil with a tourist visa, once there he can apply for an RNE (perm visa) for you at the Federal Police, you'll get it in 2-3 months.

Do a search online for the embassy location for your area, then DON'T CALL THE EMBASSY but call the nearby AGENTS who offer a tourist visa. They can tell you if you qualify and how long it will take. Many times they are in the same office building as the embassy and actually walk your application over to get it done. Some have a FAST service.

Okay. Wow. Thanks. I'll try that. Why shouldn't I call the embassy though? And would getting the visa be easier considering I'm married to a Brazilian?

Doesn't matter if you're married to a Brasilian when going after a tourist visa. These facilitators are a lot faster than the embassy because they can walk it over (usually walk over a hand full of applications) and they get done right away. Cost a little more but quick. Should be good for 10 years so you can go in and out for 10 years. The Federal Police can extend the 6 months time if you go in to their office.

Hello!
Please access this link: http://www.justica.gov.br/central-de-atendimento/estrangeiros/entrada
Go to: Permanência por Casamento com brasileira(o)
You should make an appointment with the Brazilian Consulate in your region and take a list of all your queries. They will explain everything to you. It is the best way not to make mistakes.
Depending on the info you obtain at the Consulate, you should get the relevant documentation to provide to the Federal Police. Please pay attention to deadlines and validity of documents.
Do not hesitate to contact me should you have any queries.
Good luck!
