Greetings from Asia,

My husband is French national moving to Virgin Gorda next year and would like to know if there are some French communities around the area. I do have a child of 11 year old which she has been attending International French School . I understand that in the island there's only one International School accredited to the International Baccalaureate but its located in Tortola while we will be residing in Virgin Gorda. Any school that she can possibly attend there ? I appreciate your helpful insight and assistance. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you and kind regards- Avic

Hello!

Congrats on your decision to move to Virgin Gorda. It's a small, beautiful and friendly little island. The residents are very very friendly and there is an International community of expats there who are very welcoming and plan tons of events and clubs. There isn't a french community but the international expat community is welcoming to all.

In terms of schooling, there is a small school called St Mary's but is specialized in younger children at elementary level.

Cedar International School is probably the best and only option. Your daughter would enter directly into the Middle Years programs that allows direct enter to the iB program in high school. The school is fully accredited and provides the best education in the country. There have always been children from Virgin Gorda attending Cedar school. I myself traveled back and forth all 12 years of school. The ferry services provide ferry ticket weekly passes for students and taxi/bus pick up can be arranged to drive your child from the ferry dock to school in Tortola and back to the ferry again the afternoon for 50 USD per month. Our driver was very friendly and spot on time everyday. The ferry staff are lovely and always keep an eye on the children for you and even delay the ferries to wait for the children should there be traffic in the afternoons so they don't need to wait for the next boat. The travel total is only one hour. The ferry leaves at 8 am and is a 30 min journey. The Bus is already waiting at the dock in Tortola and it's only a 15 minutes max drive to school, giving the children sometime to get to class and drop things off at their lockers. When registering your child in school you could kindly ask which children from Virgin Gorda are currently attending school and you could contact their parents for support in organizing transport. For example which taxi/bus service they travel with and they can all travel together.

I hope this helps and if you require any more information do not hesitate to ask. ( I have copied the cedar international school web link below for your viewing)

Best of luck to you and your family.
