Hello everyone,

I'm currently looking at buying in Bulgaria in the New Year, in particular the vratsa or veliko tornovo area. I'm looking to connect with people who have done this before and can recommend a lawyer as opposed to an estate agents which are plentiful. After speaking to numberous Bulgarian nationals they have all encouraged me to find a UK lawyer as opposed to a Bulgarian lawyer. I'm back visiting Bulgaria, looking to buy in February 2017 so ANY information would be most appreciated! Thank you Christine

Hi, we bought a property a couple of years ago near Chirpan. We used a lawyer from Plovdiv - think his name was Georgie if I remember correctly. Cost us about £250. We thought it was well worth it for peace of mind. You'll need an interpreter when you go to the notaries office, but they normally sort that out.

Hi
we bought in April 2015 and moved here in May of this year. We are in the Velio Tarnovo/Pleven borders. We bought this property with VT Properties and paid 500 Euros for an extremely comprehensive service, including the sale, opening a bank account, registering for a Bulstad number (required when you buy a house) and registering the property with the council. We paid a further 100 or so leva for the documents to be notarised. We have bought 3 properties since and have used a local Notary (380 leva), a local translator (70 leva), and an Advocat (40 leva) for writing up the house registration documents. I hope this helps

This is great news. Is it true that if you want to buy land you need to register a company first ?

Hi magicmushroom

i was about to reply with - depends on whether ithe land is regulated or unregulated. But I'm really not 100% sure. But when we move out of the single EU market we may possible have to revert to owning a "company". All that involves is registering your "company" and doing a null tax return yearly. Hopefully someone else has better info for you
