Hi Just wondering if anyone can give me some pointers, my husband is in the very early stages of applying for a job based in Myanmar. We have 2 children aged 5 and 6 that would be coming with us. What are the best areas to potentially set up home? and which international School would you anyone recommend? Are we completely mad even thinking of doing this? or is there a community to join in once we are out there? Look forward to hearing from anyone, I am in a state of excitement and absolutely terrified, all at the same time.
Thank you
Rachel

If you need property in Myanmar, we always try our best to find right property for you based on your custom requests.
We believe budget/costing always the problem for everyone. Our suggestion is if possible, do a property costing for accommodation, school fees, and expenses. this will help you know what you want.
For your information, Majority of the rental pay in cash in once time (either 6 months or 1 year)
If you have any questions, please email to us at [email protected]
Have a nice day!

My husband and I are also in the early stages of a move to Myanmar (from NZ) with our 2yo daughter. I'd be really interested to hear anything you've managed to find out so far!

My wife and I, along with our 3 yr old daughter, moved to Myanmar earlier this year from Canada. It takes awhile to find them, but there are some events and play centers around Yangon for kids.
Watch out for Mosquitos. Denghe Fever and increasingly Chikungunya are common (I got it in February - symptoms are same as Denghe but it comes on quicker after being bitten by a mosquito and the most acute symptoms recede more quickly). There was a cholera outbreak in parts of Yangon in late September, 2014.
Lack of seat belts in taxis is a concern, especially given the remarkably poor driving skills of the drivers, so be discerning and hold out for taxis that have seat belts and head rests in case rear-ender collisions.

Hi there happy to provide advice. I've got several friends working there and have stayed there many times.
First I guess I need to ask where will he be working? Yangon I assume? I'll assume it is and I will assume it is for one year at least.
The biggest cost is finding a place as it is really overpriced compared to the rest of Asia and is close to Sydney prices where I live. Golden Valley is even more expensive than Sydney which is the embassy and rich Chinese and western suburb.
If you are in Yangon I can give you some suggestions but prepare to be surprised!
I'm not sure if you want an English language school? There are several fair enough schools but nothing like the quality and quantity in places like Bkk or Bali.
Medical treatment is very poor and transport is frustrating. There are now a few good supermarket chains that sell westerner food including fresh milk.
My biggest worry would be the children as they will invariable get something like Dengue unless you are painfully careful.
The expat scene is very poor but depending in your nationalists there are some good groups. The Australia club is not so pretensions but getting someone to vouch for your membership is always a bit tricky. They have nice monthly evers.
Anyhow let me know and questions and I'd be pleased to answer. I'll be back there in three weeks
Cheers
