" Hello there, I have just found this page on the internet and am glad to find an area on the internet whereby I can perhaps get specific questions answered. I''m new to this game - so please have patience. Me and my husband are hoping to relocate to Canada in the next 6-12 months. We are actually attending an interview in London on 4th July at the Canadian High Commission where we very much hope to be granted visas. We have stated on our application form that we plan to move to Vancouver and more specifically Burnaby. What I would like very much is information on any expat running clubs or organisation of the like in this area whereby we can meet like minded people and get into the social circle fairly quickly. As I say the outcome on Wednesday will determine whether our dreams to move to Canada will be realised. However I want to make a positive start in finding out more information in preparation for our relocation?? Wish us luck. Pam Walton "

" Hi Pam, So did your dream about going to Canada come true yet? If so then you are in the exact same situation as my husband and I. In fact we already initiated packing as we leave Denmark August 30. Hopefully we will find lodging in Burnaby as my husband''s job location is in Richmond. Furthermore we sort of checked out the areas on our pre-visit in March and Burnaby seems to have all the things we require. So far we are being relocated for a two year period with the possiblity of extending up to four years. I myself hope to find some job at a school responding to my education as a teacher in primary and lower secondary school. You are more than welcome to write me back if you feel like chatting with a similarily disposed:-) Sometimes friends and family are hard to convince that it is worthwhile to pursue this specific dream! Take Care. Carina "

" Hello Carina, Great to hear from you. I was starting to think that perhaps I had typed out my original message incorrectly and that there were going to be no replies coming through. Yes, I am happy and relieved to say that the interview in London went very well. After only about 10 minutes into our interview we were given the all clear to go and get our medicals organised - what a relief. My husband and I hope to get our visas around Sept-Oct time (fingers crossed). We are only going to book a flight (research trip to Vancouver) once our visas are through. We do hope to be flying over in October. All going well with visas etc we are planning to move Feb-Mar 2002. We are looking to relocate also to the Burnaby area as I have a possible job lined up with a company there. My husband plans to get work with a sculpting firm initially and to eventually set up as a self employed sculptor of wildlife figurines - exciting!! I hope everything goes well with your move etc and I would love to keep in touch along the way and to meet up when we are over. Bye for now, and thanks for the contact. Pam Walton "

" Hi Pam, Congratulations on your job-interview. Another 20 days left in Denmark and then the big take-off is a reality. Last weekend we threw a part for family and friends and it made me realize that leaving all these wonderful people behind is not as easy as I first thought. I am convinced though that the experiences we will gain in Vancouver are worth the tears and goodbyes at the airport on August 30. Still I am bit concerned about my situation over there as I haven´t been able to apply for a job yet. First thing I´ll do when we arrive! Anyway, I agree, lets keep in touch along the way. Please do use my e-mail as an alternative to this forum. carina_romer@yahoo.dk. Cheers Carina Roemer "

" Hi Pam, Congratulations!!! My wife and I (and 2 kids) are seriously hoping to move to Canada (we currently live in the middle of Wales) as soon as we can (which means a lot of saving, I guess.) If you''re inclined to help a fellow Brit, could you e-mail me any advice on the process of moving? I''ve been in touch with the Embassy and looked over the application forms, and I get 61 points before personal suitability, so it''ll be a close call. A job offer would add 10 points, but I''m a self-employed freelance copywriter, so things could be tricky there. If you or the hubby need a pen-pal to see you through the transition, I''d certainly like to learn from your experience. Best wishes, Ian "
