Hi I have just joined today, We are orginally from the UK and been in Australia for 7 years, and would now like to move to Canada. Can anyone say how strict the medical is? I was fine when I came to Australia but after having a baby a had Post Partum Cardiomyopathy, I am fine now with annual check ups and a few pills to keep blood pressure under control but if there is no chance of me passing the medical there is no point in my OH going to get licenced etc for his trade before we apply, thanks

When my husband came to Canada from the USA he had to see a designated doctor as determined by Immigration Canada in the USA to do his medical. It was the last step required AFTER all the other paperwork was completed and approved. It cost about $450 to have this done and the doctor seemed more interested in if he had TB and/or any medical issues like that so can't say how your medical matter would factor it. Took us about 2 years to get everything completed and once the medical was done (if memory serves) it was only valid for 6 months so was the last thing he was required to do. About 1 month prior to it expiring he finally got the phone call telling him when he had to report to the Border to be officially 'landed' into Canada. This was for Permanent Residence. Hope this helps :) :) :)

when you receive your right of permanent residency document it has an expiry date on it. You have to go through immigration at your point of entry before that expiry date or start the whole process over. Watch out for the date code. They just use numbers, no letters.

Here is what they are looking for. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/medic/admiss/index.asp
As you will see, the danger to public health is not an issue, the only question would be whether you were likely to become a burden on the public health system. I doubt very much that would be deemed to be the case with your medical condition. Think instead of someone who has just been diagnosed with something like cancer, MS, etc. where it is clear there are going to be major medical costs in the future.
Not to minimize your health issue but don't overblow it either.

Right, and those investors put up the minimum & rent an empty storefront on Broadway in Vancouver. They are all from Taiwan, 100's of empty storefronts with just a name.

berteroti - I have good friends who live just one block off Broadway in Vancouver. They walk a lot. The store fronts have old office furniture & file cabinets, import/export, distributing, etc. lots of Chinese writing, out of date calendars, but no one is ever working there. I am sure there is a business license & phony account books. Yes, it's fraud. But they disappear.
