Canada to Nicarauga

My husband and I are looking to relocate from Canada to Nicarauga - we currently live on a lke year round in a small town about 30 mins from a larger city. We would be looking for a similar set-up, somewhere we can enjoy peace and quiet, wildlife etc but still go for dinner or a drink when we wanted to. Ideally, we would like to buy two houses on one lot or close together and we would want great swimming so either a lake or the ocean.

We would likely have about $400 K to do this.

Questions:
Is Nic safe
Is the cost of living high
Do they offer benefits to Expats to live there
Can you open a business
can you open fishing businesses
Can you trf the properties to your children before or after death and if so are they heavily taxed
what does hydro, taxes etc run - are they reasonable
is internet easy to get and what about phone service

We were thinking of Belize but prices are getting sky high there

Well first, your post does not belong on the Canda branch it belongs on the Nicaragua branch.

It is an interesting thing I have noticed in many forums that for some strange reason, a lot of Canadians (I am Canadian) seem to think the Canada branch of any forum is for Canadians to post in about somewhere else. Bassackwards.

You post in the forum of the country you are interested in, not the country you are from.

OK, so moving on. I suggest you think twice before buying anything unless you have already lived there for at least a year and preferably two years.

There is a post I started in the Global Forum page of this site titled, 'where to retire' and I suggest you read it for the reasons why you should not buy right away. You don't say if you are retiring or plan to work wherever you move to but the reasons remain the same.

Most people want to leave nicaruaga and go to canada or the us. Nicaragua has issues with electrocute going on and off clean drinking water plumbing poverty and yes there are beautiful beaches and nice people. much safer than costa rica but if you want a western lifestyle you will pay, if you want to liv like the locals do get used to a lot of heat uv radiation and very limited choices
