Hi there

I am using an online site to do my evaluation for immigrating to Canada. Do you think this is the best router? Is there a way that I can apply directly to CIC myself for Immigration. I have not found a means to apply myself so far. Help

I believe all the necessary forms are online. Good luck if you can ever even find a phone number to ask! (Not trying to be snide but having used the site it is all I could ever find and I could never even find a phone number to CIC)

Best of LUCK! :) :) :) :)

You do not need a third party to apply to immigrate to Canada. Everything you need is EASILY found online at the CIC website including a test you can do online to determine eligibility.

Just Google, 'Canada immigration determine eligibility' and you will be led right to it.

From there, you can go on to other CIC pages that will tell you all you need to know, how to apply for a visa etc.

In applying OldPro is correct in his advise to you.

Definitely you do NOT need a third party to make your application. The paperwork is a bit daunting when you first print it all and some of it is repetitive and comprehensive but once you start going through it it is all easy to complete. Get ALL your documents in order i.e. - birth certificates, marriage/divorce certificates etc and you'll be set to go.

Having done this process DO MAKE SURE you answer EVERY question even if the answer is N/A or repetitive as they WILL send it all back with a letter and highlighted yellow the areas you missed.

Best of luck

wafa - CIC will check everything you write. They will contact neighbors, employers, schools, etc. They are very rigorous. I helped my wife - doing most of it myself. The cic.ca website is a bit daunting. The only response we got when trying to contact the Canadian Embassy in Manila was by email saying that we "may get a reply in 5 to 6 weeks?

I agree 'easy' is a relative term standupguy. I too had the experience of doing my wife's application and I found it easy but maybe I am more comfortable at reading 'legalese' and navigating through government websites online.

But yes, you're right. Some people may indeed need help and not be able to do it themselves. Before going that route however, I would suggest giving it a good try yourself. At first all the forms etc. can seem daunting but if taken one step at a time, may be doable by the individual.

Wafa, regarding a phone number. They deliberately avoid providing phone numbers since as you can imagine, they would receive a tremendous number of phone calls from people asking how to answer some question in the application process.

I got around this by phoning CIC in Canada to ask my questions. I did not try to call the Canadian High Commission in the UK.

It isn't easy and can take several tries and considerable waiting time to get someone on the line but it can be done.

Old Pro - Our confirmation was sent to the Philippines from Canada, though we were dealing with the Embassy in Manila who deflects any inquiry. We heard nothing for 9 months (I sent letters). We never received our confirmation from Canada because it disappeared in the Davao Philippine Mail Service there is very sketchy unless there is tracking. Finally, out of nowhere the courier comes with it after 13 months of waiting. CIC wanted, my wife's school records so she had to travel to her home town only to find her High School had closed years ago, but her Primary school was still operating.. When we arrived at VAG immigration in Vancouver, the CIC guy scolded me in front of everyone because my wife's Right of Permanent Residency document had a few wrinkles in it. Welcome to Canada. Actually, I am leaving Canada permanently to live in the Philippines soon. Canada is too expensive.

I applied for my husband a couple of years ago (he just got his Perm Residency 6 months ago). I filled out ALL the forms I found online. Six months later we got them all back as 'not the right forms' and had to re-do all of them as I unluckily filled out all forms about a week before they changed them all.

It was fairly straight forward process although the paperwork was pretty comprehensive and looking up and confirming dates was difficult and time consuming.

The entire package was returned to me again as when I filled out N/A in the top slot for dependents I didn't put N/A into ALL the other spaces on the form and CIC required I do that.

We were bringing in NO dependents and I figured if I indicated that in the top slot on the form it was good BUT they do want you to put N/A in EACH SPOT.

After that it was just wait time for a LONG time. Then out of the blue we got a letter requiring my husband do his physical which he did. We heard nothing again until a 5am phone call about 2 week prior to the medical expiring from CIC asking if my husband could make it to the USA Border. He did, they stamped him in, gave him a small Canadian flag and now he has Perm Residence here.

Granted he was coming from the USA and different countries have different packages to be filled out but it is do-able yourself IMO.
